10 scripts enter, 2 survive a month of developmental live events to compete in a final reading to determine our “Weirdest work”. Winner/s receive a staged developmental reading in 2026 produced by Awesome Theatre, as well as a lil $$$ and MAJOR bragging rights.

ROUND 1:
10 Writers chosen from over 20 submissions where asked to provide a video pitch of their written submission for consideration. 7 are going on to 4 more rounds of competition LIVE on stage at ECLECTIC BOX! Come help decide what we produce in 2026!!!

ROUND 2:
Thur 10/2 @7pm, PITCH SLAM: Writers “pitch” their show ideas live on stage and judges randomly hand picked from the AUDIENCE decide who goes on to the next round.
Host: Wonder Dave & Tirumari Jothi.
Judges: The AUDIENCE including oh-so obvious Awesome Friend plant: Phil Wong!

ROUND 3:
Thur 10/9 @7pm, THE TABLE READ: Real life actors read 10-15 min of the 4 top scoring scripts from last week’s Pitch Slam seated on stage. 3 scripts move on to the following week.

Thur 10/16 @7pm, STAGED READING: 3 writers get 20-25min of their work staged. Actors will be “on page” for the most part, but they will be on their feet this time breathing life into these weird-ass ideas with a little theatre magic at their disposal.

Thur 11/13, NOT GALA 2025: Winner will be announced LIVE as part of our 2026 line-up and dip their toe into everyone’s favorite part of being a celebrated playwright: FUNDRAISING! Yay!!!!
The winning pitch will be featured on screen and the creator/s will have the option to present a mini reading teasing its inclusion in our development series in 2026!
This night is also a celebration of everything we worked on in 2025, so bring your friends, pop a Lactaid, and come support the arts, damn it.

Awesome Theatre is a Bay Area Theatre company dedicated to producing new, relevant, theatrical, live entertainment that will not only appeal to theatre audiences but people who do not regularly see theatre. Someone is just as likely to see a stand up comic, or a movie as they are a play. We strive to create work that is accessible, creative, and unpretentious. Theatre is one of the last things we cant do or experience alone, there always has to be another person in the room.Our goal is to create a great experience for every person in that room. a shared experience.
